‘SOMEONE WITH TWO HANDS MADE IT’

His entire life, Brian has been building things: bicycles, muscle cars, you name it. “If something’s made, someone with two hands made it,” his dad used to tell him. “And so can you.” Brian knew his PacBak™ idea could make life easier for people—he just needed to get things moving.

HE LOVES FISHING. HE HATES THE REST OF IT.

You catch a fish, fillet it, put it in zip-top bags, throw it in the cooler—and when you get home, the real work starts. “You’ve got to clean the cooler, get out your vacuum sealer, bag everything up, and then clean everything again,” says Brian McKinnon. “It’s a terrible process. Everyone hates it.” So he decided to do something about it.

OVERCOMING TRAGEDY

Brian and a friend, Adrian, were working on the PacBak™ together when they traveled to Las Vegas for a music festival—the 2017 event where a gunman opened fire, killing 58 people and wounding more than 400. Adrian was killed, and Brian had to fight through tremendous grief to move forward.

‘IT WAS MY MOTIVATION’

After the festival, Brian lost everything. He had to work his way back from nothing, progressing through various jobs until he had enough money to fund the development and patents for the Roam-18V Battery Vacuum Sealer, the first of its kind. “It was my motivation to work, to get everything together,” he says.

MORE THAN AN INVENTION—A TRIUMPH

PacBak™ is an innovative solution to an age-old problem—a new tool to lock in that perfect flavor right after you catch a fish, whether on the boat or on the shore. But it’s something more, something deeper, as well: It’s a testament to Brian’s commitment to pushing through to find a better way, both personally and professionally.
